Monferrato - Wikipedia

Alto Monferrato, a fascinating land situated in the south of the region of Piedmont in the province of Alessandria, on the border with the region of Liguria and the Apennine mountains, nestled away among beautiful landscapes of vineyards, gentle hills, breath-taking scenery, steeped in history,
art and culture, wine and gastronomy delights.
Located in a strategic position, just an hour’s drive from Genoa, Milan, Turin and the Ligurian Riviera, where tranquillity, traditions, and respect towards
the Seasons and Nature still exist and reign supreme.

The city of Acqui T. is surrounded by a natural frame of beautiful hills and countryside, by the Erro and Bormida valleys, where the landscape varies constantly with vineyards, fields, woodlands, valleys and rivers, but it is mostly characterized by vineyards cultivated with Brachetto and Moscato grapes.
The city has developed on the left-hand bank of the Bormida river, at 164 metres a.s.l. and counts a population of around 20.600 inhabitants. A charming thermal city, renowned since roman times for its natural hot waters, rich in therapeutic properties, that gush out in the heart of the city, and across the Bormida river in the Bagni area. Waters characterised by the presence of sulphur and salts from ancient seas, that are still used in the Thermal complexes and in the Beauty Farms. Today the city represents the main thermal resort in the region of Piedmont, and is among the most renowned in Italy, not only for the quality but also for the vast selection of treatments available. Wine and gastronomy is the second most esteemed produce that plays a fundamental role for tourism and most of all for the local economy. In fact the area boasts an impressive 9 DOC and 3 DOCG wines.
Tourists may discover an impressive selection of museums, sites, operas of art where each year grand names from the Italian contemporary art world are held at Palazzo Saracco.

A Roman city, a medieval city, a modern city; the oldest part is known as “borgo Pisterna”, with its charming, characteristic cobbled alleys, similar to the “carugi” in Genoa, Baroque and renaissance portals, and beautiful late-medieval buildings, that lay next to Borgo Nuovo and Borgo San Pietro: together they represent today’s city centre, that has slowly developed towards the hillsides and plains.

A beautiful and welcoming city that will surprise you with the warmth
and simplicity of its people.
